Microsoft Live Search Penalises Comparison Sites |

Price-comparison sites will find it harder to appear high up within search rankings following a decision by Microsoft to alter their search algorithm.
Microsoft is to change its "Live Search" algorithm to make it harder for aggregator sites like Moneysupermarket, Go Compare and Kelkoo to appear ahead of brand sites within paid results by adding a new metric that will help established brands appear higher. THe move has already been implemented in the North American market and will hit sites that do little more than offer listings the hardest. |

Brit Invest £7m To Secure Future In Online SME |

Brit Insurance has outlined its aims to be at the forefront of the online micro end of the small to medium-sized enterprise market after investing £7m for a 38% stake in broker Xbridge.
Simon Cooter, Brit distribution director, said that the internet and electronic trading is poised to transform the micro-SME market and that he believes companies such as Xbridge "will form part of the vanguard". He added: "The micro-SME market will undergo a massive change in the next few years. The internet and electronic trading will transform the market. |

Google Predicts Exponential SME Growth Online |

Ian Morgan, Head of Finance at Google, has predicted that the UK will experience exponential growth in online SME commercial insurance sales with growth estimated to be atleast 75% in 2008 alone.
Whilst activity has been relatively low in the past, Google have witnessed a significant increase in advertising and activity in recent months. During 2007, the top eight providers of commercial insurance spent an average of £650,000 each in order to appear at the top of Google' search results with figures expected to increase further in the future. |

Swiftcover is preparing to launch a car insurance webquote facility on mobile which it claims to be a first for the mobile internet.
The website asks for basic details including occupation, postcode, no claims bonus and car registration number and will allow consumers to obtain an online quote for car insurance when they are away from their computer. A spokesperson said "Our audience is very web savvy and will appreciate the chance to get a quote while they're at a car dealership". |
